Our second film night of 2025, "Wilding", was very well attended on a drizzly 4th December night - we had pretty much a full house and everyone said how much they enjoyed the film. Thank you to everyone that supported us by turning up, provided nibbles and/or stayed to have a drink and a chat about the film. We enjoyed seeing you all and the home-made nibbles donated by some of our lovely attendees were absolutely delicious!
In October, the Dry Stone Walling Association came back to the allotment to rebuild another section of the boundary wall behind the orchard. It was great to see so many people visit our "Exhibition of Recent Photographs", we had over 120 visitors across the weekend and our calendars are on sale with some excellent choices from the exhibited photos. If you'd like to see the winners of the calendar and the people's vote, head over to our Calendar page.
In September, Councillor Jenny Boak visited us to take a look at the community orchard planted with their support at the Parish Hall, and to help mount one of the tree variety name signs that have been made from recycled wood. We chatted about the process of planting the trees, building protective cages, and beating back invasive species such as Bracken, Holly and Himalayan Balsam, plus new opportunities to obtain native trees and hedging plants in the future.
A representative from Westmorland & Furness council, took photos of the orchard and signage so that the council can talk about the community orchards that have been planted locally.
To support the Cartmel Fell community, and undertake voluntary works that contribute to our community and/or benefit sustainable rural life.
We run community activities and social events alongside or in addition to the popular ones offered by Cartmel Fell Community Trust, and finding additional ways for local residents to socialise.
We undertake regular maintenance tasks around Hodge Hill Allotment and the grounds of Cartmel Fell Parish Hall for the whole community to enjoy, and to encourage nature to thrive.
Contact us to get more information, or to get involved, or just come for a chat! We usually post something on Facebook about our outdoor sessions.
