At the end of the B4RN project on Cartmel Fell, the volunteers that had been involved still wanted to give their time productively to their community in ways they could enjoy.
Below are some of the ways we have been able to do so.
Brush cutting and clearing of paths through the Parish woodland and Cleared invasive species including Himalayan Balsam from multiple sites on the Fell (ongoing).
Arranged for a Chainsaw course, allowing community members to become certified to use their chainsaws for fallen tree clearance.
Used our chainsaw skills to clear downed trees on the allotment (ongoing).
Maintenance of the Lych Gate and church grounds.
Planted a new orchard and nuttery and built protective tree cages.
For our Woodland Walk, we wrote a storybook-themed trail and a quiz, produced a set of illustrations, put up a marked route, got our crafting overalls on and made characters from found wood.
Invited the Dry Stone Walling Association to rebuild areas of wall on the allotment with the kind permission of Cartmel Fell Community Trust and assisted with the preparation of the site and gathering of materials.
