Woodland clearance, gardening, balsam bashing, woodcrafts and more!
Our volunteers do a variety of activities and we hold a volunteering session most Friday afternoons at the Parish Allotment.
If you would like to come and chat to us or take part, please check our events calendar for dates and times - or contact us.
In partnership with PEAT (Peninsula Environmental Action Together) and with the support from 'Cinema for All' we presented a screening of Wilding (75 minutes) on Thursday 4th December. Based on the best-selling book written by Isabella Tree, this is the true story of the failing four-hundred-year-old Knepp estate. Isabella and her husband decided to re-wild it using radical methods and reintroduce native species. Their experiment reveals the ability of nature to rebound and offers hope for conserving biodiversity the world over.
October 2025
Our exhibition weekend attracted a steady stream of visitors each day and some great comments.
We showcased contemporary life in and around Cartmel Fell and had "Sounds of the Fell" playing while people browsed over 100 photographs.
Eric Pye chose photos for our 2026 calendar and presented a prize to Helen Caldwell for her winning entry, which will become the cover photograph. Calendars are on sale and you can see all the pictures that have been included on our calendar page.
The "People's Vote" proved to be a hit, too; and the winning photo was a photo of St Anthony's church decorated for the Christmas Carol service, by Laura Martin.
June 2025
Our inaugural Annual General Meeting where people came to find out about what we're about.
We cooked up a storm with some Gloucester Old Spot, Cumberland, Bratwurst, GF sausages and Not Pork veggie sausages, tried lots of local cider and perry, and some fantastic desserts donated by the community.
May 2025
"A storybook adventure in School Lot"
At the Cartmel Fell Spring Show we put together Activity sheets with a quiz, a mapped route through the woodland in a 1 mile figure of 8.
We made a 10-stage story about the Parish woodland characters, sights and sounds you experience as you explore the Parish orchard and woodland.
With the help of Elsie, we also explained how to estimate the height of a tree with a stick.
March 2025
Clare Dyson's film showed her 200 mile journey across Cumbria on her horse Merry. She set off from Cartmel Fell, visiting farmers and ecologists who talk about adapting their work, to prioritise nature and combat climate change whilst they produce food.
We all had a really enjoyable conversation with Clare about her travels and the people she met.
September 2024
We watched a fascinating film in September about how beneficial regenerative farming is to business as well as the environment.
We had the chance to talk to four regenerative farmers about the changes they have made to their farming methods and the benefits it has brought to their livelihoods.
July 2024
As one of our first official events as "Cartmel Fell Volunteers", we ran a community barbecue in Summer 2024 to celebrate.
