PREPARING YOUR IMAGE(S)
Give your image a title: Just a word or a few that describe the subject or evoke the emotion of the image. For example, you might title a bleak snow scene “Winter” or perhaps “Cold!”.
Where was it taken? Tell us where and when it was taken. We would like a description of the location and ideally, the latitude and longitude. You can use Grid Reference Finder or Google Maps and right-click to find the latitude and longitude. For example: Gummers How Summit is: Latitude 54.288, Longitude -2.938.
When was it taken? Tell us when the image was taken, the date is essential, but the timing is not. However, some indication of the actual time would be helpful. For example: Early evening, Dawn, 6 am.
Describe its subject: Please provide a short description of the subject matter of your photograph. This will not be exhibited. For example: Celebration of Guy Faulks Night on Cartmel Fell, Community ‘Bonfire night’. If the subject of your photograph shows people we would like you to identify them. For example, "a scene showing a wedding at St. Anthony’s Church, & <names> getting married." Or "portrait of grandad asleep". Tell us who he is. While we will not publish the description, you should obtain the permission of any people in your photograph that you have named.
Format: Your image should be in one of the following image formats: .jpeg, .png or .pdf. It can be orientated in either portrait or landscape format. The aspect ratio (width:height) of your image is up to you. We will only adjust the size of your image to the maximum size that will fit, un-cropped, onto a sheet of A3 (420 mm x 297 mm).
Check for faults: Look as closely as you can at your image. Is it “sharp” ? This is particularly important if you have used a telephoto lens or a long exposure on your camera, or used a zoom function or the “nighttime” setting on your phone. Check for unwanted shadows and /or crop out unwanted items at the edges of your photographs.
